One topic I come back to frequently is that we need better measurement tools at all levels with a better understanding of what measurement does and how to create and validate better measures. I elaborate at howardjohnson.edublogs.org

that said, I do like the process to identify potential talent for the next thing that comes up which I don't have "Lee" waiting in the wings. Call me an optimist but I think this kind of thing helps me (as a manager)
a) confirm Lee is really my best opiton
b) see what other things I could be doing if I had new person (we'll call her Jan) in the group as well..

You know who else liked to use the analogy of rooms in a house? Cicero. But instead of using those rooms to expand your horizons, he used them to remember his arguments as to why someone should be punished, or closing horizons, I guess you could say. How ironic?

Spot on Sir. There are many corporate dynamics that have little or no relevance to the generations coming though now. In fact they have not been relevant or appropriate for a long time but lack of innovation and complacency have meant that we did nothing about it.
Your perception of Twitter and its relevance/potential in your "what is twitter worth" entry is very interesting in this context and i for one hope that the connectivity it enables will allow those that do and can think differently to create a much more interesting landscape for us all in the workplace.
Interesting comments and views.
